Installation
Connecting the ML VAT 101 transmitter
The ML VAT 101 installs between a VGA source and the remote display via a standard CAT5 cable. The transmitter connects to the source device while a compatible receiver unit at the far end drives the display.
01
Connect the Source Device
Connect the VGA output of the source device, such as a computer or media player, to the VGA IN (HD D15F) port on the ML VAT 101 transmitter. Connect the audio source to the EP audio input connector on the transmitter unit. The local VGA OUT port on the transmitter can also drive a display at the source end if required.
02
Run the CAT5 Cable
Connect a standard CAT5 cable from the RJ45 output port on the ML VAT 101 transmitter to the compatible receiver unit positioned at the remote display location. The cable run can extend up to 150 metres, making it possible to position displays in areas that would otherwise require impractical cable lengths using conventional VGA cabling.
03
Connect the Remote Display
At the remote location, the receiver unit connects to the plasma screen, projector, or VGA display via its VGA output. Audio is also delivered to the display or audio system at the remote end through the corresponding audio output on the receiver. Apply 230V AC power to the transmitter unit to complete the setup.
04
Position the Display Strategically
With the ML VAT 101 in place, the remote display can be mounted in any publicly visible or operationally appropriate location within the 150 metre range. The source hardware remains out of public reach while the display delivers multimedia content at the chosen remote point, whether in a retail environment, corridor, lobby, or meeting space.
Where the ML VAT 101 performs
Designed for environments where VGA video and audio must be distributed over long distances using structured cabling, keeping source hardware centralised and display devices positioned where they are most effective.
Digital Signage in Retail and Public Venues
Position plasma screens and display units in high-visibility areas up to 150 metres from the source hardware. The ML VAT 101 allows signage displays to be mounted publicly while keeping the computing equipment secured and out of reach.
Corporate Lobbies and Reception Areas
Drive display screens in reception areas or lobbies from a central source without visible cabling infrastructure. CAT5 runs through walls or ceilings allow clean, professional installations with source hardware kept in back-office or server rooms.
Educational Institutions
Extend VGA output from a central media source in schools or universities to classrooms or lecture theatres. Audio is also delivered over the same CAT5 link, enabling fully featured multimedia presentations without hardware at each display location.
Conference and Presentation Rooms
Connect presentation equipment in AV racks or secure enclosures to screens installed in meeting rooms. The ML VAT 101 allows presenters to drive a remote display over CAT5 from a centralised source, avoiding the need for a separate device in each room.
AV Rack and Control Room Installations
Distribute VGA video and audio from rack-mounted source equipment to remote monitoring displays or operator screens. Centralising the hardware in a rack while driving remote screens over CAT5 reduces clutter and improves cable management in technical environments.
Hospitality and Event Venues
Deploy multimedia content to screens in hotel common areas, event halls, or banquet spaces where long cable runs between source and display are unavoidable. The cost-effective CAT5 approach reduces both hardware and installation expenditure compared to dedicated per-screen systems.

What is the ML VAT 101 used for?
The ML VAT 101 is a VGA and audio transmitter designed to extend display and audio signals from a central source device to a remote plasma screen, projector, or VGA display over standard CAT5 cable. It is the transmitter unit in a CAT5 VGA audio extender pair, intended for digital signage and professional AV distribution where the source hardware needs to be kept separate from the display location.
How far can the ML VAT 101 extend a VGA signal?
The ML VAT 101 can extend VGA and audio signals up to 150 metres using a standard flexible CAT5 cable. This range is sufficient for most commercial and institutional installations, allowing displays to be placed in publicly visible locations while source hardware remains secured at a central point.
Does the resolution remain high over the full 150 metre distance?
The ML VAT 101 supports resolutions up to 1600×1200 at 75Hz, however the achievable resolution depends on the length of the CAT5 cable used. Shorter cable runs will support the highest resolution settings, while performance at the maximum 150 metre distance may vary. For critical installations, the cable run length should be considered when determining the intended output resolution.
Does the ML VAT 101 also carry audio, or is a separate cable needed?
